NCTS (New Computerized Transit System) ook wel Transit genoemd is een geautomatiseerd systeem voor het doen van aangiften voor douanevervoer en wordt gebruikt in alle lidstaten van de EU, en Noorwegen, IJsland en Zwitserland.
Hoe werkt NCTS ?
De aangifte wordt electronisch gedaan bij de douane. Na aanvaarding krijgt de aangifte een uniek registratienummer toegekend met een barcodering. Na een eventuele controle worden de goederen vrijgegeven en kunnen deze, begeleid door het douane-document, vervoerd worden naar de plaats van bestemming. In de tussentijd vindt er al een melding plaats vanaf het kantoor van vertrek, naar het kantoor van bestemming. Na aankomst op het kantoor van bestemming van de goederen, wordt het document bij een lokale vergunninghouder ’Toegelaten geadresseerde’ afgemeld in het NCTS systeem. Hierna kan gekozen worden voor een andere douanebestemming.

• Het douanesysteem bepaald wat wel en wat niet wordt gecontroleerd.

NCTS (New Computerized Transit System) - also known as Transit - is an automated system for the submission of custom declarations of goods in transit. This system is used in all member states of the EU, as well as in Norway, Iceland and Switzerland.
How does NCTS work?
The declaration is electronically submitted to the customs office. After acceptance the declaration is provided with a unique registration number including barcode. After a possible inspection of the goods by the customs authorities and receipt of the appropriate custom document, the goods can be transported to its final destination. In the meantime a report is sent by the office of departure to the office of destination. Upon arrival at the office of destination, the local tax representative is reporting the arrival in the NCTS system. Case need, the custom destination can be changed after that arrival report.
What are the advantages of NCTS ?
• A qualitative better service, as goods are no longer always subject to a physical check by the customs authorities.
• The customs authorities system is deciding on a possible check of the cargo.
• Smooth auditing of the transport document.
